COLLECTION STATION IN DENMARK
With 30 ton capacity will make a difference for the Scandinavian shellfish industry
The newly established company Aquabrand’s A/S is a strong believer in the growth of global markets for perishable shellfish and have therefore established a shipping point in Denmark with 30 ton storage/holding capacity.
Aquabrand’s is a spin off from one of northern Europe’s leading frozen fish distributors, Sirena A/S.
It can only go one way says Henrik Molzten, general manager of Aquabrand’s, the explosive growth in global aquaculture will lead the way for more fresh products on the markets and set the scene for supply chain integrations unheard of in wild fishing.
Aquaculture gives us a “just in time to market” opportunity that can reform the way consumers develop their purchase habits for fresh seafood as this is to a large extent driven by logistics.
In the remote areas of Scandinavia we have been forced to sell our slow growing and strong tasting shellfish to the process industries, this is only because we could not get the fresh products to the market – with the development of aquaculture in general and the focus on transportation solutions this is now all set to change.
Aquabrand’s is also in the process of establishing a receiving facility in Southern Spain, this facility will be able to receive live shellfish from northern Scandinavia and even Greenland straight into the hearth of the largest European shellfish market in Spain.
